How To Start A Photography Business

Love Your Work

It's one of the greatest things in life to be able to do something you love for your work. I work with a lot of photographers doing their SEO, and I see this "love of work" in virtually every one I speak to. I enjoy taking pictures, but the enjoyment, satisfaction these "Guys" get (most of them are female) when they take the perfect shot in beyond compare.

So, in the latest of my client series I spoke to Yvette Craig of (funnily enough) Yvette Craig Photography based down on the Kent / Sussex border.

So, why photography Yvette?

"Well, I've always had an interest" Yvette started, "and that interest was developed by my father who was a keen photographer too".

"He was never professional though", she continued, "however, I'd developed myself to a stage where I felt I was good enough to go professional. I'd done a few weddings for friends, a couple opf boudoir shoots and some family pictures I was particularly proud of".

Going Professional

That's all well and good, but how did you make the transition from part time to full time photographer?

"That's a really interesting question", she smiled, "I did a lot of research about the best courses to go on. Yes, i took every professional course going to make sure I knew everything there was to know about light, shade, angles and all types of wild and wonderfulphotographic techniques".

How long did that take?

"A couple of years, I used most of my holiday from work to go on courses and learn the technical side ofmy trade. Coupling that with my creativity finally gave me the confidecne to know I was taking top notch pictures that people felt proud to show off".

Remember It's A Business

So, what about the business side of being a photographer?

"I took a superb course that really taught me everything that is involved in running a photography business. It was outstanding and even taught you how to use specialist web software to build a website that fitted the niche".

Indeed, Yvette's website is amazing. It showcases her work superbly well and is easy to navigate around and to find exactly what you want. You can find Yvette's site here.

So, how many years down the road are you now?

"I've been professional for seven years now. I can't imagine doing anything else. I love my work, I love seeing people being absolutely "wowed" by their pictures. It is just so immensley satisfying and I love it".

So, if you're around the South East corner and are looking to have a photo shoot for a wedding, family, equine or a risque boudoir shoot, look up Yvette at http://www.yvettecraigphotography.co.uk/
